Ranger’s Apprentice, the early years, the tournament at Gorlan.

By John Flanagan

This book is to be read after the Rangers Apprentice series.

Halt and Crowley, two young Rangers, set out to fight Morgarath, a treacherous baron. To do that they need help.

They think they can get help from the once loyal Rangers that have been kicked out of the Ranger Corps. They are scattered throughout the country.

Halt and Crowley must bring them together if they are to have any chance of winning, time is running out. Morgarath has the King in Castle Gorlan and his health is weakening.

The Prince is a prisoner while a fake one causes havoc. They must stop Morgarath before the tournament at Gorlan. The tournament is when Morgarath will make his move to put himself on the throne.

Will Halt and Crowley be able to rescue the prince and reform the Rangers in time?

This is an awesome book. It is when Halt and Crowley first meet and Halt has just become a fully fledged Ranger. It answers all the questions that I have wondered about throughout the Rangers Apprentice series. The story of how it all started, the first war with Morgarath and how Halt, Prince Duncan and Crowley claimed victory over Morgarath and his Wargals. It is a great book. There is a second book in the Early Years series, it is called The Battle of Hackham Heath and it’s about the last battle.

Ciao Louis, ! Very interesting and intriguing review! Well done! Do you recommend this book to a 13 year old girl who is learning English or do you have any other advice to give? Many thanks!

Thanks for your comment. It is not difficult language and the stories are some of my favourite. Mum is reading the series now and loves it as well!
