Young Samurai, the way of the warrior, book 1.

By Chris Bradford.

Jack Fletcher is a ship’s boy on the ship that his father is the navigator in 1611. Their aim is to reach the Japans and make a trading route between the Japans and England.

On the night that they sight the Japans the boat is attacked by Ninja pirates and the evil Dokugan Ryu (Dragon Eye). The crew plus Jacks father is slain.

Jack is rescued by the legendary sword master Masamoto Takeshi and is made part of the Takeshi family.

The only way Jack can survive in this country is by learning the way of the warrior, a sword, martial art and zen practice. The only place he can learn it is at Masamoto’s school in the east of Japan.

The thirst for revenge is strong in his heart. Jack must also protect his father’s rutter (a book filled with maps) with his life. Dokugan Ryu seeks this rutter to be able to go overseas.

Jack makes friends and enemies including Masamoto’s son,Yamato, in school.

This book is a great way to learn some history of Japan in the days of the Samurai and the Ninjas. It has lots of sword fighting, sword training and excitement. If you are interested in the old ways of Japan then you should read this book.
